Mohamed Shawky is doubtful for Egypt's African Cup of Nations semi-final against Ivory Coast due to injury, Egyptian FA board member Hazem Al-Hawari said on Wednesday. "He will undergo some tests on Thursday to determine his availability for the match," Al-Hawari told Egyptian TV. "Anyway, he will not be excluded completely. If he isn't 100% fit, he will sit on the substitutes' bench." Al-Hawari, who leads the Pharaohs' delegation in Ghana, did not elaborate on the kind of injury the Middlesbrough midfielder has sustained. Shawky has established a formidable partnership with Hosni Abd-Rabou in the heart of Egypt's midfield. Skipper Ahmed Hassan is likely to take his place should the former Ahli man fails to recover in time for the crucial encounter. Mohamed Zidan, who missed Egypt's 2-1 victory over Angola in the quarter-finals, could also miss out due to an ankle problem. "He trains on his own but still have a chance to break through Egypt's squad," Al-Hawari added.
