English coach Kevin Keegan has returned for a second managerial stint with Newcastle United, the Premiership side announced on Wednesday. In a brief statement on their official website, the Magpies announced the appointment of the 56-year-old tactician. Newcastle were considering several options after sacking Sam Allardyce last week. A host of names, including former Newcastle great Alan Shearer, were linked with the post. Toon faithful will now be hopeful Keegan can turn around the team's fortunes after a poor run of results, including a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Manchester United. Keegan was appointed as Newcastle coach in 1992. He helped the club escape an unthinkable relegation to third division. In his second season in charge, Keegan steered Newcastle to a Premiership place. The former Liverpool forward last coached Manchester City before leaving them in 2005.
