Real Madrid got through to the last 16 of the UEFA champions League as solid winner of Group C after beating Lazio 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night. The Spanish giants have eleven points just like Olympiacos, who beat Werder Bremen 3-0, but with a better head-to-head record. After a first effort by Raul denied by the post and a missed chance by Wesley Sneijder, Brazilian Julio Baptista broke the deadlock in the 13th minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the area into the corner of the net. Two minutes later Raul connected with Robinho's corner to double the lead and raise his tally of Champions League goals to 59. Robinho crowned his efforts and made it 3-0 in the 36th minute to put the visitors in front of a mountain to climb. Real had a few chances in the second half but failed to get the best of them and coach Bernd Schuster rested some of his key players as Robinho, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Wesley Sneijder were replaced by Arjen Robben, Higuain and Guti. Goran Pandev pulled one back in the 80th minute but that was nothing more than a consolation goal. Tommaso Rocchi lost a late chance as his penalty was saved by keeper Iker Casillas. In the other match of the group Olympiacos beat Werder Bremen to secure a place in the knock out stage courtesy of Ieroklis Stoltidis' brace, 12 and 74, and Darko Kovacevic, 70, who completed the rout.
