Israel claimed a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Russia on Saturday to leave England on the brink of securing their place in Euro 2008 finals. Elyaniv Barda fired Israel in front after 10 minutes before Diniyar Bilyaletdinov equalized for Russia in the 61st minute. An injury-time strike by Omer Golan denied Guus Hiddink's men. England were at risk of missing out on a place in the competition after falling to Russia 2-1 away from home. A victory for Russia over Israel in Tel Aviv would have left England in an unthinkable and embarrassing situation. However, the Three Lions will now be relieved as they need only a home draw against Croatia on Wednesday to go through.
