A late header by substitute Ahmed Salama gave Tersana a 1-1 away draw with Ittihad on Friday, to deny the Alexandria-based club a much-needed win and foil Mohamed Salah's debut. Salah, who took over at the club after coach Mohamed Omar resigned, was delighted after Khamis Gaafar broke the deadlock seven minutes before the break. However, Salama came off the bench to score three minutes from time and silence the home crowd. The result put Tersana in eighth place of the league table with seven points while Ittihad, who are yet to grab any win, lie third from bottom on just two points. Hussein Shokri could have put the hosts ahead midway through the first-half when his low shot went past Tersana keeper Ahmed Saad and struck the post. Tersana never really threatened, relying on the pace of Mahmoud Samir to get something out of the game.
Hassan couldn't score against his former club The lucky Gaafar gave Ittihad the lead in the 38th minute when his low free-kick deflected off the wall and went into the back of the net. Veteran striker Hossam Hassan almost doubled the lead just before the break when Medhat Ramadan's slip allowed him to go through on goal but his shot went just over the bar. Tersana began the second-half with a more attacking approach while Ittihad tried to defend their lead. Eight minutes past the hour mark, Salama curled a fine shot from inside the area that narrowly missed the target. Seven minutes later, Ahmed Farghali wasted a golden opportunity to level the score when he went one-on-one with keeper Essam Mahmoud, who superbly blocked his effort. However, Mahmoud wasn't that clever late in the match. Three minutes before the final whistle, Mahmoud misjudged a corner kick and Salama capitalized on his blunder to head home.
