Zamalek have opened talks with Iraq midfielder Nashat Akram over a possible move to the Cairo giants, a source close to the player said on Sunday. The source told FilGoal.com that Akram has refused to pen a contract extension with Saudi Arabia's Al-Shabab and is ready to move on. The 22-year-old midfielder wanted to move to Europe but has received no good offers so far and is currently considering other alternatives, the source added. Qatari duo Al-Sadd and Al-Gharafa in addition to an unnamed UAE club are interested in Akram's services. Zamalek have also made an offer to the player but will certainly not be able to compete with their Gulf counterparts, who are financially superior to the men in white. However, the source said that Akram's priority is to play in a team which can fulfill his ambitions of winning trophies and, consequently, opens the door for him to make a dream move to Europe. Akram is currently on international duty with Iraq in the AFC Asian Cup. He helped his country reach the competition's semi-finals.
