Egypt skipper Ahmed Hassan has finally confirmed that he will play for Anderlecht for another season, after continuous efforts from the Belgian champions to keep him. "I had no choice but to fulfill my contract and stay with Anderlecht," Hassan told FilGoal.com on Wednesday. The former Besiktas playmaker, who joined Anderlecht in June 2006, has one year remaining in his two-year contract with the club. "I am a professional and I really appreciate the club's interest in me, so I am staying in Brussels."
Hassan celebrates the league title Hassan has initially revealed his desire to return to Egypt at the end of the season, but consistent pressure from Chairman Roger Van Den Stock, as well as the club's supporters have forced him to repent his decision. "I explained to the chairman my desire to return to Egypt for personal reasons, but he insisted on keeping me upon our fans' request," he added. Hassan has become a favorite for the Purple and White fans after leading the club to the Belgian League title and Super Cup this season, scoring 15 goals in the process. The 32-year-old confirmed that the club has recently rejected a $1.5M offer from a Qatari club, as Van Den Stock set at least $5M to sign the Egypt captain.
