Sir Alex Ferguson was happy to see his Manchester United side come out of their midweek UEFA Champions League defeat to edge closer to a Premiership title with a 1-0 win at Manchester City. Cristiano Ronaldo's first half penalty sealed the precious win for the Red Devils, who are now just one point away from dethroning title holders Chelsea. "We've a great chance," Ferguson told Sky Sports 1. "Obviously, what you saw today was human courage. Coming back from Wednesday night, having to go through the travel, the lack of rest, the players have shown fantastic courage."
Ronaldo scored United's winner The Scotsman admitted to the mediocre performance shown by his players, but said that fatigue is a sufficient excuse. "Today we've not seen the real Manchester United, there was tiredness there and the sharpness in the game wasn't as normal," he added. "It wasn't a great performance, but a derby game is like that and the courage they showed was fantastic." United survived a late scare when Edwin Van Der Sar blocked Darius Vassell's 82nd minute poor penalty. "Just towards the end, they got a penalty kick. I don't know if it was or not, but we got through it," added Ferguson.
