Coach Theo Buecker is proud of his season's achievement with Al-Wehda so far after leading the team to the final stage of the Saudi league for the first time ever. The German manager believes that the achievement is like a dream come true for the Mecca club and its board. "When I first spoke with the club's president, Jamal Tunsi, at the start of the season, he explained that the club has never won any competition throughout their history,” Buecker told Al-Watan newspaper. “He asked me to help the team reach the final playoff stage, and we did," he added. Wehda are currently second in the Saudi league on 43 points and Buecker commented on his side's chances ahead of the following decisive period in which they prepare for the final four phase. "Our aim right now is to keep our second place and even improve on it and give our best in the final stage playoff." Wehda will be accompanied by leaders Hilal, as well as Ittihad and Shabab, with the previous trio having no shortage of previous trophies to their names. "I think we have equal chances with the other teams in the final stage to clinch the title despite their glamorous history," Buecker added. The former Zamalek and Ismaili coach highlighted his future ambitions to guide the Mecca Warriors to higher standards. "My focus is to establish a winning mentality for my players no matter how tough our opponents are," he added. "You can see that we often take the lead in a game, but the players need to learn how to preserve their supremacy and stay focused till the final whistle."
