Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Samir Zaher said that the association's board will hold a meeting next Saturday to decide on Olympic team coach Nelo Vingada's future. Zaher revealed that Vingada's due contract expired when Egypt were eliminated from the preliminaries of the Beijing Olympic Games qualifiers against Ivory Coast, and a decision is yet to be made regarding the Portuguese coach's future. "We will hold a meeting next Saturday to decide on Vingada's future," Zaher told Filgoal.com. Zaher said the board meeting will be preceded by a meeting between him and Vingada. "I will meet with Vingada to see if he has any plans for himself in the near future before I meet with the board," Zaher added. The EFA president insisted he and his board are not leaning in a certain way and that the whole issue is still open for discussion.
The EFA board will meet on Saturday "The majority of the board members believe Vingada is a great manager," said Zaher. "We could decide to ask Vingada to continue until the African Games next summer, or we can decide not to extend his contract at all." Zaher revealed there could be other options for the Portuguese tactician. "There is the possibility of putting Vingada in charge of the youth team that will represent Egypt in the 2009 World Championship that we will host," he added. Vingada led Saudi Arabian national team to the Asian Cup triumph in 1996 and he also won the Egyptian Premier League with Zamalek in 2004.
