Goalkeeper Andres Palop scored in stoppage time and Javier Chevanton notched in extra time as holders Sevilla rallied to a 3-2 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk to advance to the UEFA Cup last eight. Sevilla went through 5-4 on aggregate after the first-leg ended in a 2-2 draw in Spain. Francesco Matuzalem put the Ukrainians ahead in the 49th minute before Enzo Maresca leveled the score four minutes later. Brazilian forward Elano restored the lead for the hosts seven minutes from time but Palop came to Sevilla's rescue deep into stoppage time when he headed home Daniel Alves' corner. Uruguayan striker Chevanton sealed the victory just before the end of the first period of extra-time. Elsewhere, Dutch side AZ Alkmaar beat Newcastle United 2-0 at home to advance on the away goals rule as the first-leg ended 4-2 for the Premiership side. Espanyol were also through after hammering Maccabi Haifa 4-0 while Benfica needed a late penalty from Simao Sabrosa to register a 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, 4-3 on aggregate.
