PSV Eindhoven defender Alex is set to miss his side's UEFA Champions League quarter finals tie against Liverpool through injury, the Dutch club said on Monday. The Brazilian center back underwent an MRI scan on Monday, which revealed a partial tear in the hamstring muscle. “Alex will be out for at least six weeks,” read a statement on PSV's official website. “The Brazilian will miss next Sunday's domestic clash with Ajax and the two Champions League quarter-final ties against Liverpool next month.”
Alex, whose equalizer against Arsenal on Wednesday helped PSV clinch their quarter-final berth, sustained the injury during the draw against Exclesoir in the Dutch Eredivise on Sunday. The 24-year-old's injury comes as a strong blow for PSV coach Roland Koeman who counts heavily on the Brazilian international in his backline. PSV are currently in charge of the Dutch league table with 67 points, eight points ahead of their closest contenders Ajax and Alkmaar.
