Konyaspor's skipper Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa said his team is aiming to finish the Turkish league in a position that will allow them to feature in European competitions next season. "We are carrying out Konya's best ever season, we are sixth in the league table, only five points away of second-placed Besiktas," Al-Saqqa told FilGoal.com on Monday. The Egyptian international has also spoken about Konya's recent run in the league, which was interrupted by an unexpected defeat to Trabzonspor. "We have been playing well since the start of the year, we defeated big names like Denizlispor, Besiktas and Sivasspor, however we were harshly denied a penalty in the defeat to Trabzonspor," he explained.
Mohamed Abdullah The 33-year-old center back spoke about his compatriot and new teammate Mohamed Abdullah who arrived in Turkey during the January transfer window. "Abdullah is on the verge of establishing himself as a first-team regular, he played against Sivass and assisted our third goal, he had 30 minutes of action against Trabzon as well. "I was present when the coach told Abdullah he would get his full chance soon,” added Al-Saqqa. Al-Saqqa has also said that Ibrahim Saied is playing regularly for Rizespor, who are currently in 15th place and facing relegation. Konya's next league game will be a tough trip to Istanbul where they will be welcomed by leaders Fenerbahce.
