Egyptian defender Amir Azmi has completed a move to Saudi league title holders Al-Shabab from Greek side PAOK Salonika, the player said on Monday. Azmi put pen to paper on a deal a three-year-contract but refused to reveal financial details. FilGoal.com learned that PAOK will receive over 1 million Euros in return for services of the former Zamalek player. Al-Shabab have been courting Azmi for over two weeks now and the 22-year-old is glad the move finally materialized. “Al-Shabab is one of Saudi Arabia's football powerhouses and are the reigning champions,” Azmi told FilGoal.com exclusively on Monday.
“I'm looking forward to playing with them in their Asian Champions League campaign,” he added. Al-Shabab were drawn in Group D of the AFC Champions League alongside Ittihad of Syria, former Asian champions Al-Ain of UAE and Iranian giants Foolad Sepahan. Azmi is scheduled to fly to Riyadh to join his new teammates after Egypt's friendly international against Sweden, which is scheduled for Wednesday in Cairo. He is expected to make his debut with Al-Shabab in their game against Saudi league leaders Al-Wehda on Friday. Al-Shabab are currently 4th in the Saudi league standings on 26 points, six adrift of joint leaders Al-Wehda and Hilal.
