Tottenham boss Martin Jol said on Thursday that he decided to keep Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' at White Hart Lane due to shortage of options in the team's front-line. Mido was linked with a move to Premiership side Manchester City and Spain's Celta Vigo due to lack of first-team football with Spurs since rejoining the club from AS Roma in the off-season. However, the injury of Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov forced Jol to reject any offer for the Egyptian international striker. "There was an opportunity for Mido to leave but I want him to stay, so that is the end of it," the Dutch boss was quoted as saying by Sky Sports Network. The 23-year-old could be handed more first-team action in the upcoming period after his impressive late show in the second-leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Wednesday. Mido came off the bench ten minutes from time to cancel out Emmanuel Adebayor's opener and almost added the second shortly after. But Tottenham were dumped out of the competition after conceding two goals in extra time.
