Barakat returned to action after a long lay-off against ASEC Mimosas in the African champions League semi-final last month. The 30-year-old played also against Tunisia's Sfaxien in the first-leg of the competition's final but aggravated his knee injury afterwards.

Despite making his comeback against Ittihad Alexandria and Tersana in the Egyptian League, he suffered pain in the Achilles tendon. In more bad news for Ahli Portuguese coach Manuel Jose, who will be left ruing his bad luck, midfielder Wael Reyad will undergo a surgery in his kidney.
