Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello claimed that David Beckham's omission from the English national team has taken its toll on the player. Beckham stepped down as England's captain after the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany and has since been overlooked by new manager Steve McClaren. "In Beckham's case, he has had bad times after being left out of England's national team,” Capello told Sky Sports program Revista De La Liga. "Those are moments which produce psychological difficulties." Capello hailed Beckham, but said that his decision to relegate the 31-year-old winger to the bench was due to the overall situation of the player. "I think that Beckham is an outstanding professional," said the Italian tactician. "He always gives his best both in training and when he is playing. I firmly believe this."
Capello "But you also have to keep in mind that a coach needs to have the overall picture in his head in order to achieve certain results." Beckham lost his place in Real Madrid's starting line-up following the arrival of Jose Antonio Reyes and his spell on the bench has cast doubt on his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. But Capello insisted that the former Manchester United skipper was on his way to regain top form and extend his contract with Real, which expires at the end of this season. "Now he's regaining all his composure. The other day in the Champions League he played very well and now he seems to have become the Beckham we once knew," said Capello. "I've always said he should be with us," added the former Juventus boss. "He is a unique professional." "I love professionals, and not only professionals but also good players - two very important things."
