Former England captain David Beckham said he still has desire to play for the national team again despite being axed by new coach Steve McClaren. The Real Madrid man was dropped from the England squad playing in the Euro 2008 qualifiers following a disappointing World Cup campaign. "I didn't announce my international retirement because I want to play for England again," he told The Daily Mirror. Beckham, who earned his 94th international cap against Portugal in the World Cup quarter-finals, vowed to do his best to get convince the manager to call him up. "I want to fight my way back in. Steve McClaren says the door is still open. I'm not so sure," the 31-year-old winger said. "I still want to reach that milestone of playing for England 100 times and help them win the European Championship. "It's a target I set myself a long time ago and I won't give up now." Beckham is a starter in Fabio Capello's side and he was instrumental in Real's last league game, setting-up Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy twice.
