England winger Aaron Lennon could miss several weeks due to a knee injury sustained during training on Friday. The Tottenham prodigy missed his side's 1-0 loss to Manchester United on Saturday after having hurt his knee during training. Tottenham boss Martin Jol explained the uneasy situation surrounding the 19-year-old as they await tests on Sunday to understand the scope of the problem. "Aaron picked up an injury in training so we couldn't consider him for selection," Jol said in a statement to Tottenham's official web site.
Lennon's injury comes as a blow to Jol "Maybe he needs an operation but maybe we'll give him another week's rest because it's only a small tear in his cartilage so hopefully it will be okay. We'll make an assessment and we'll know for sure." If the injury involves ligament damage Lennon could be sidelined for a while. Though only a substitute so far for England, Lennon would miss their early October games against Macedonia and Croatia. He will definitely be out of Tottenham's UEFA Cup first-round opener against Slavia Prague on Thursday; a blow Martin is ready to recover from. "It's a disappointment but we played without him in pre-season and others did well so I'm confident we can play with the other players and get the results as well," he said.
