English champions Chelsea have returned to their winning ways beating Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at the Ewood Park on Sunday. Frank Lampard opened the score early in the second-half before Ivorian international Didier Drogba sealed the victory nine minutes from time, to hand Chelsea a boost following their 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough last week. The victory put Chelsea in fourth place with six points, while Blackburn lie in the bottom on just three points. Four minutes after the re-start, Chelsea were awarded a controversial penalty when Blackburn defender Andre Ooijer allegedly brought down John Terry inside the box while Lampard was crossing a free-kick. The England international midfielder stepped-up and delivered the ball under Brad Friedel's body into the bottom-left corner of the net. South Africa striker Benni McCarthy almost leveled the score seven minutes later when he brilliantly received David Bentley's cross on his chest before firing a close-range shot that was blocked by Chelsea keeper Petr Cech. Drogba secured the win in the 81st minute when he latched on to Michael Essien's through pass, outpacing Ooijer before thundering into the roof of the net. Earlier on Sunday, Aston Villa cruised past Newcastle United 2-0 at home to snatch second place in the Premiership table. Luke Moore put Villa ahead after just three minutes before Juan Pablo Angel ensured the win in the 38th minute.
