Alexandria-Ahmed Maher & Khaled Youssef: Egypt coach Hassan Shehata said that "stupid mistakes" cost his team the game against Uruguay on Wednesday. The Pharaohs slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in an international friendly that took place in Alexandria, yet Shehata says the game provided a useful test for his Egyptian team. "Egypt played a strong and prominent opponent (Uruguay)," the Egyptian manager told a press conference after the game. "From the way things were going, I was sure we'll lose the game due to a stupid mistake, I even told (assistant coach) Shawki Gharib that, and it happened." A 67th minute header from defender Diego Goodin and a late own-goal from Egyptian Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa gave Uruguay the victory. Nevertheless, Shehata insisted the Egypt were the better side throughout the game, despite the defeat. He also dished out praise for Egyptian players who made their debut during the game.
Ahli's player's missed the game "They weren't afraid, even though we were playing a strong team," he said. "I believe that's a good sign." New players were introduced in Egypt's starting line-up due to the numerous injuries within the ranks of Ahli, whose players constitute the majority of the national team. Shehata also explained the exclusion of Europe-based players Ahmed Hossam 'Mido', Hossam Ghaly, Beshir Al-Tabie and Ahmed Belal. "Mido was unsettled, he didn't know where he will be playing next season, and when he settled with Roma, I thought I'd give him a chance to prove himself with the club."
