German midfielder Michael Ballack was officially presented by Chelsea on Tuesday, and has said he doesn't mind letting go of team reins. "At Bayern I was a leader but I don't mind being less leader and more part of a great team," he said in a statement on the Chelsea official website. The 29-year-old was featured heavily at Bayern Munich, but was not wary about his uncertain placement within the star-heavy Chelsea. "You can see with bigger teams like Brazil, they have a lot of stars and manage to focus on being a team and not having one star," he added. The three-time German Footballer of the Year seemed willing to take any position on the team, though he's expected to be rotated in the Chelsea line-up with Ghana's Michael Essien, and Frank Lampard. Ballack has dismissed comments about a possible rivalry between himself and Lampard.
Lampard "We want to be successful, we don't want to compete. We want to work together and I will be glad to play side-by-side with him," Ballack said. While Ballack, who was given the number 13 jersey, is unsure what role he will play, he is confident he will excel. "Chelsea know about my strengths, that is why they picked me and there is great competition in the midfield. I am just going to try to do my best and we shall see how it goes." The Germany captain has not yet claimed a UEFA Champions League title and has admitted that changing that will be one of his goals for next season. "It's definitely one of my biggest ambitions," he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "It's not the only goal. I have to focus on every match and the domestic league, but it's definitely a challenge for me."
