Chelsea captain John Terry is 'desperate' to win the UEFA Champions League trophy and believes new signings Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack are the key. "We have to retain the Premiership again and build upon that and that is our target," Terry said on Chelsea's website on Monday. "But with the players we have brought in, we are really pushing for the Champions League. We are desperate for it," he added. Chelsea won the previous two Premiership titles and are looking to claim a trophy in the world's biggest club competition. Terry is confident that Chelsea, who scored only nine goals in eight European games last season, will be able to win the tournament after adding high-profile players like Shevchenko and Ballack.
Ballack will bring more depth to Chelsea "Last year we didn't really score a lot in the Champions League. With these two players coming in, hopefully that is going to change," the Blues captain said. Terry feels the team is confident about the competition, but concedes the new players' experience will be a major boost for Chelsea. Shevchenko is a past Champions league winner, and Ballack has made 57 appearances in the competition. "We have got the backbone of the side and there aren't many weaknesses. We have confidence throughout the team," he said. "Everyone here is desperate for the Champions League. We are aware of that and the fans are aware of that."
