Second place not an option for France coach Domenech
Published in FilGoal on 06 - 07 - 2006

France coach Raymond Domenech said that his time have to do whatever it takes to win their second World Cup title when they take on Italy in Sunday's final in Berlin.
"What matters now is to go all the way," Domenech told a press conference after Wednesday's 1-0 win over Portugal in the semi-finals.
"We can't be content, we have to recuperate, start focusing and give all we have in the final to make sure we have no regrets," the French boss added.
A 33rd minute penalty-kick from Zinedine Zidane earned France a spot in the World Cup final for the second time in eight years.
"We are very proud to have reached the final," Domenech said.
"It was a difficult match, but I said before that our goal was to be there on 9 July, now we have to win the final.
"As for Italy, two great performances stand out for me: France's against Brazil and Italy's very good win over Germany," the French coach added.
"We'll see them on 9 July at 9pm."
The 54-year-old tactician paid tribute to the Portuguese team but refused to comment on coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's tactics.
"I'm not going to comment on the Portugal coach's decisions since I don't like it when other coaches comment on mine," Domenech said.

Luiz Felipe Scolari
"I salute Portugal for making us suffer, but there had to be a winner. It was clearly our toughest match and they were the side who caused us the most problems – more than Brazil, but in a different context," he added.
Disappointed with the outcome of the match, Scolari had some words of warning for Italy about the upcoming match.
"If Italy aren't careful, France will get the better of them. The two sides are evenly balanced but it's true the French have fantastic talent," the Brazilian boss said.
Despite France's admitted talent Scolari didn't feel Portugal was the inferior team and blamed the referee for the defeat.
"I don't think France were better than us – it was an even game – but I reckon a draw ending in a penalty shoot-out would have been fairer," Scolari said.
"Look at (Cristiano) Ronaldo: he played excellently but France let him have so few chances. Having said that, if France got a penalty, then Ronaldo should have got one as well," he added.
Portugal are set to play Germany on Saturday for the bronze medal. Scolari said the team is getting past their disappointment and are redirecting their efforts into winning third place.
"We dreamt of going all the way, we worked very hard but now we have another target."
"We want to finish third, even though we have a day less to recover than the Germans," said Scolari.
