Mexico won't renew the contract of national team coach Ricardo LaVolpe following their exit from the round of 16 of the World Cup, Mexican FA president Alberto De La Torre said. Mexico finished in second place of Group D but they lost to Argentina 2-1 in the first knock-out stage. "I am not going to renew LaVolpe's contract," De La Torre was quoted as saying by Sky Sports Network. After succeeding Javier Aguirre as Mexico's coach after their exit from the 2002 World Cup, LaVolpe led the team to the semi final of the Confederation cup in Germany last summer. "LaVolpe have been in his position since 2003 and the only good performance we can remember for Mexico was in the Confederations Cup, so I think that the moment for a change has arrived," he said. "He promised to take Mexico to the World Cup semi final but didn't, so I think he won't have a problem in leaving his position." De La Torre said he will be considering potential replacements for the Argentinean coach over the coming period. "I'm going to gather all those coaches that are interested in working for the Mexican national team and ask them to present their projects," he said. "All the interested coaches have to present plans showing their thinking for the coming four years."
