Portugal playmaker Deco will miss his side's quarter-final clash against England on Saturday after FIFA confirmed there would be no appeal to his suspension. "There was a phone call from Portugal and they were clearly told 'forget it'," FIFA spokesman Marcus Siegler was quoted as saying by Sky Sports Network. The Barcelona midfielder received two yellow cards and was one of four players sent-off during the 1-0 victory over Holland, a record for a match at the finals. Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari had said Monday he would attempt to get the first yellow overturned, claiming that the Dutch had failed to return the ball to the Portuguese after a stoppage in play for an injury. Scolari accepted the second yellow card which was shown for delaying the game. Portugal will also be without midfielder Costinha, who received two yellow cards, first for a tackle on Philip Cocu and the second for a deliberate handball. Forward Luis Figo will be available to face England after FIFA decided the yellow card shown to him for head-butting Mark van Bommel was sufficient action by Russian referee Valentin Ivanov.
