German midfielder Mehmet Scholl has signed a one-year extension with Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga champions said on Tuesday. Scholl's contract was due to expire at the end of the season but he opted to prolong his stay until June 2007. "We're delighted at reaching agreement on another year working together," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club's official website. "We're convinced Mehmet will be able to help us in plenty of matches next season. Furthermore, after Mehmet Scholl ends his playing career, the plan is for him to take on an as yet undefined role at the club." The 35-year-old midfielder expressed his delight after securing another year at the Allianz Arena although he doesn't get plenty of action recently. "I'm overjoyed at the prospect of spending a further year as a Bayern player," Scholl said. "I also believe I can still help the team, so I'm already looking forward to the new season." Scholl has been at the Bavarian giants since 1992, winning a record of eight Bundesliga titles with his club.
