German champions Bayern Munich failed to put the disappointment of their UEFA Champions League exit behind them as they were held to a goalless away draw with VfL Wolfsburg. Despite the result, Bayern are on top of the Bundesliga table with 59 points, while Wolfsburg lie in 13th place with 27 points. Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero almost bagged the lead for Bayern in the first minute after his ball went into the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside. The visitors dominated in terms of possession but failed to create goal scoring opportunities. In the 31st minute, Bayern skipper Michael Ballack, playing his 100th Bundesliga game for Bayern, sent a powerful close-range shot but it went over the bar. Elsewhere, Hertha Berlin thrashed Werder Bremen 3-0 at the Weser Stadion venue. Kevin Boateng put his side ahead in the 53rd minute before Brazilian Marcelinho doubled the lead in the 76th minute. Turkish midfielder Yildiray Bastürk completed the rout seven minutes before the final whistle. Bremen, the second German team to be eliminated from the UCL, are in second place with 50 points, nine adrift of leaders Bayern. In other matches, Arminia Bielefeld beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-0, Nurnberg defeated Cologne 4-3, Duisburg tied Hannover 0-0, Mainz defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 and Stuttgart were held to a goalless draw with Borussia Dortmund.
