De Jong last-gasp strike lifts Hamburg past Bayern
Published in FilGoal on 04 - 03 - 2006

A last-gasp strike by Nigel de Jong earned Hamburg SV a hard-fought 2-1 victory over German champions Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Mehmet Scholl's strike in the 83rd minute cancelled out Guy Demel's opener in the 16th minute before de Jong sealed the victory for the visitors just one minute before the end.
Hamburg are in third place of the Bundesliga table with 50 points, closing the gap with leaders Bayern to eight points.
Elsewhere, Werder Bremen missed a chance to narrow the gap with Bayern as they were held to a 1-1 away draw by Bayer Leverkusen.
Torsten Frings opened the score for Bremen as early as the third minute before Dimitar Berbatov leveled the score four minutes before the interval.
Despite the result, Bremen are still in second place with 50 points, ahead of Hamburg on a goal difference while Leverkusen lie in sixth spot on 32 points.
In other matches, Borussia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw with Mainz, Cologne beat Hertha Berlin 4-2, Schalke edged Hannover 2-1, and Nurnberg thrashed Duisburg 3-0.
