Veteran goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca dished out praise for Livorno counterpart Marco Amelia, stating that he is the future of Italian goalkeeping. The long-serving Bologna keeper said that Italy is suffering a goalkeeping crisis and expressed his hope that Amelia can succeed him on the international level. "There's no-one coming through, only Amelia. He struggled a bit last season but now he's showing his true ability," Pagliuca was quoted as saying by Football Italia magazine on Wednesday. "I'm counting on him and I hope that he can keep improving," he added. Amelia has recently revealed his desire to join Roma as coach Luciano Spalletti is reportedly unhappy with the contribution of his goalkeeping duo Gianluca Curci and Alexander Doni. The 23-year-old, who earned his first call-up for Italy in a friendly clash against Ivory Coast in November, has conceded just 17 goals this season and played a pivotal role in Livorno claiming fifth place in the league table.
