Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane is poised to join Spanish giants Real Madrid after completing a medical in England, The Daily Mail reported on Sunday. The 34-year-old midfielder is set to undergo another medical Spain before being introduced as Real's first winter signing later this week, reports claimed. The former Republic of Ireland skipper will sign an £80,000-a-week (approximately $140,500) contract to play for Los Meringues for the remainder of the season. Neither the player nor the club issued statements confirming or denying the reports. Keane will have an option to extend his contract for another season with the capital-side if both parties agree. The veteran midfielder will not be able to participate in Real's UEFA Champions League campaign since he is cup-tied with United, but is expected to play a pivotal role in La Liga. If the deal is completed, it will see Keane reunited with former Manchester teammate David Beckham. Keane has surprisingly parted ways with Manchester United in November after falling out with veteran manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Ever since his Old Trafford exit, the Irishman has been linked to Real Madrid, among other clubs from Spain and England.
