Ghana received another major blow as center-half John Boye became the second key defender to be ruled out of the World Cup qualifying playoff against Egypt. Kumasi-based Metro FM confirmed that the Ligue 1 side Rennes defender has sustained an injury that would require surgery without identifying the nature of his complaint. The news adds to manager Kwesi Appiah's woes, having lost integral defender Jonathan Mensah to injury a day ago. Boye has just been selected in Appiah's 25-man squad for the Egypt clash as the Ghana boss is expected to name a replacement soon. The Black Stars will now face Egypt without their two regular center-halves, in addition to anchor man Mohamed Rabiu. Veteran center-back Isaac Vorsah is also out with long-term injury, a setback that puts the Black Stars in an unenviable position ahead of their crucial Egypt clash on October 15.
