Ahli have been fined $20,000 and ordered to play one match behind closed doors after their fans ‘used flares excessively' during the Champions League win over Tusker last month. African football governing body CAF announced the decisions of its disciplinary board on Thursday, nearly one month after the incidents of the round of 32 tie in Cairo. CAF said that Ahli are to play ‘four matches behind closed doors, two of which are suspended' The ruling also handed the Cairo club a $40,000, excluding half the amount. Despite the verdict, Ahli were already set to play their next home game against Bizertin of Tunisia without fans for security reasons. The orders came from Egypt's minister of sport El-Amry Farouk, following Ahli fans' controversial violence during the Tusker game. The Reds 2-0 win was marred by trouble at the stands, which saw the home fans throw canisters onto the pitch, including two during the run of play. Ahli were eventually requested to pay EGP 500,000 of damages at the Army Stadium, which announced hosting no more local games until further notice.
