Ahmed Gaafar struck at death to give Zamalek a hard-fought 3-2 win against Police Union in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday. Zamalek, playing in a new pink outfit, seemed close to a draw after being one-goal down until Gaafar came to his side's rescue one minute from the end of regular time. Egypt full-back Mohamed Abdul-Shafi broke the deadlock on 16 minutes before Mohamed Maged leveled for Police seven minutes later. Khaled Kamar put his team in front two minutes from the interval as the in-form Mohamed Ibrahim equalized for the Whites on the stroke of half time. It is Zamalek's second win out of two as the Whites lead Group B with six points. Late comeback Zamalek's early pressure paid dividends when Abdul-Shafi latched onto a threaded through-pass from Ibrahim to break free before rounding the keeper and slotting home. But youngster Maged restored parity as he was lucky to see a shot deflect off Mahmoud Fathallah and fly above keeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed into the net. Police were then awarded a dubious penalty when Mohamed Al-Sadat was adjudged to have been fouled by Salah Soliman, with striker Kamar sending Abdul-Wahed the wrong way to give his side the lead. Zamalek, however, refused to enter the dressing room on the back foot when Ibrahim bundled in from close range following a combination between Eid and Gaber on the right. The second half brought an otherwise dull affair as the active Kamar remained his side's main source of danger with Zamalek apparently running out of gas. Kamar could have settled the game for his team when he saw a glancing header miss the target on 65 minutes before dispatching a shot wide four minutes later. But it was Gaafar who had the final say in the game when he headed in Eid's cross one minute from the end to make sure his side claim all three points.
