The head of Egypt's print shop resigned after the central bank discovered 2.8 million Egyptian pounds ($500,000) had been stolen several weeks ago, a Central Bank statement said late Tuesday. After investigating the issue, the central bank accepted the resignation of its assistant deputy governor, who is in charge of the mint, the statement said. The case has been sent to the public prosecutor, it added. "Initial indications show a lack of full adherence to work procedures that should be followed at the end of one specific stage of production that caused the incident," the bank said in the statement.
