The retrial of a leading politician and property tycoon, who was sentenced to death for allegedly hiring an ex-policeman to kill a Lebanese singer in Dubai in 2008, begins in Cairo Monday. "The court session of the retrial of Hesham Talaat Moustafa and Mohsen el-Sukari Monday will be a procedural one," a legal source told The Egyptian Gazette. Last May, a criminal court in Cairo, sentenced Moustafa, an ex-MP from the ruling National Democratic Party, to hang for ordering the murder of Lebanese Singer Suzanne Tamim. But last March, the Court of Cassation, Egypt's highest judicial authority, revoked the death sentenccing passed against Moustafa and el-Sukari. The chief justice of the new trial Adel Abdel Salam Gomaa is a veteran judge, who is known for his harsh rulings, according to the source. "The trial will take place in the New Cairo Criminal Court," the source said. He added that a fence was set up to separate between Moustafa and el-Sukari in the dock. Moustafa's Medinati, a luxurious city built by his real estate company, is a few kilometres from the courtbuilding on the outskirts of the Egyptian capital. The original trial has captivated the Arab world with its mix of sex and power since it started in late 2008.
