Egypt's Al-Ahly club say they, like their compatriots Zamalek, will request drug tests for players in the Egyptian Premier League, the local media reported yesterday. Ahly's football director Hadi Khashaba said that the Red Devils were all in favour of the idea, which he described as a positive step for Egyptian sport. Ahly's coach Hossam el-Badri , meanwhile, said that the club supported this step and they were not afraid of drug tests, as his players had already undergone such tests in the African Champions League, in which they face the Gunners of Zimbabwe on Thursday in Cairo in the second leg of the 32nd round. Meanwhile, Zamalek, another top Egyptian club, are preparing to officially inform the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) that they suspect that some Egyptian Premier League players might be using performance-enhancing drugs. "The Zamalek management, in association with the board, will request the EFA test players for drug," football director Ibrahim Hassan told the club's official site. "We have the right to make this request because the competition is fierce this season and we hope it will be fair." Zamalek, who won 1-0 at Ghazl el-Mahalla on Monday night, are six points adrift of leaders Ahly, but the latter have a game in hand. The defending champions Ahly came back from behind to beat Petrojet 2-1 in Cairo later on Monday. Following Ahly's controversial victory over Enppi last week, Zamalek issued a statement of protest and asked the EFA to intervene.
