Egypt's weightlifter Alaa Zaki Sunday bagged three gold medals in the snatch of 44kg at the junior competitions of the African Weightlifting Championships being held in Egypt. The event runs until March 26. Alaa came first after setting a new record in the jerk, while Kholoud Miseach of Tunisia came second and won three silvers. Nigerian Toussaint Bao dominate 48kg through compitition Nigerian Toussaint Bao Sunday collected three gold medals during the 48kg competition of the African Weightlifting Championship events being held in Egypt. Seven weightlifters from Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Nigeria and Mauritius participated in the Sunday morning competitions. Nigerian Toussaint grabbed the gold medal, while Egypt's Lamia Ramadan came second and her compatriot Alaa Zaki got the bronze. At the total of this weight, Nigerian Toussaint got the gold medal, while Egypt's Lamia came at second place, while Mauritius weightlifter Christina Duval came at the third place. Tunisian Tarek Etemi wins gold of men's 50kg Tunisian weightlifter Tarek Etemi Sunday won two gold medals in the 50kg category at the junior weightlifting competitions. Etemi ranked the first in the snatch lift of 73kg. Etemi took the top position with a total lifts of 164kg and also won the silver medal in the competition after a four-jerk Algerian who carried 93lkg. South Africa weightlifter Shelton Clary came third and grabbed the bronze medal.
Eva MOSKA praises ‘excellent' organization Eva Moska, the Secretary-General of the International Weightlifting Federation, praised Sunday Egypt's “excellent” organization of the event. Moska said that the opening ceremony of the championships was amazing and wonderful. Moska conveyed many thanks to the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation and to the African Federation. “I also extend thanks to the International and the African Weightlifting Federations for the efforts they contributed for the success of the championships,” Moska said. She hoped that the number of countries participating in the next tournament would be higher. Eva is giving lectures in technical and ethical aspects of weightlifting sport at the International Federation. She added that her visit to Egypt was not her first time, as she had previously visited the Red Sea resort to Hurghada and enjoyed diving facilities. South Africa in full gear for compition South Africa's coach Jean-ran has stressed the importance of participating in the African championships, explaining that his teams prepared six months ago for these “fierce” competitions. South Africa is participating in the tournament with 13 athletes at different categories. “Competition with the African teams is very difficult especially with teams like Egypt,” said Jean-ran, adding that his team had previously met the Egyptian team at the Junior African Championship last year in Uganda.
Libyans pleased to be in Egypt Libyan weightlifters Mohamed Moustafa (+105kg) and Saad Eddin drummer (69kg) Sunday expressed happiness about the “wonderful” arrangements of the tournament. They described the tournaments with "the very high level" to compete in. "The opening ceremony was very impressive, in particular the show about the Egyptian and African heritage", they said.
