AROUND 400 disabled men and women held a demonstration outside the premises of Cairo Governorate yesterday in protest against lack of attention from local authorities to them. Police cordoned them off and blocked their attempt to reach the headquarters. The protesters called on Cairo Governor Abdel Azeem Wazir to quit for allegedly failing to meet their demands of getting jobs and apartments. "Find us a governor who understands our suffering and works hard to meet our simple demands of good living," one protester said. They raised banners asking Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak to help them get job and find homes. Disabled people had held a demonstration for 15 days outside the Egyptian Parliament late last month. Egypt's disabled population are estimated by some institutions to be 8 million.
