The cellular being
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 14 - 02 - 2010

As we can identify a single cell in a human body, we can identify a single human being as a unit in the body of humanity and this we can call a "cellular being".
Talking first about a single cell in a human body, this cell might ignore that it is a part of a whole system and that it can affect incrementally the human body; the individual behaviour of this cell can be positive or negative creating either a good cell or a defected one (like cancerous cells). Yet, it is finally the accumulation of behaviour of individual cells that determines the general state of the human body.
The cell acting individually might feel free to do what it wants irrespective of the need of the whole body. It might not realise that it is acting within a system of neighbourhood of cells which in turn acts with a system of neighbourhood of body organs which acts within a larger physical system of flow of blood and other liquids and materials.
All that is masterminded by a certain brain power and nervous system, so if the cell is selfish, it might work only for its own survival. If the cell is stupid, it might destroy itself.
On the other hand, if the cell is aware of the existence of a higher structure and higher power, it might work for the development of the whole system; even if it does not fully understand this system because it will be aware that this will have a return on its own well being.
The cellular being, the individual human being, can ignore and question why he is created and what the general philosophy behind that is. He can also act as a selfish being working for his own benefit and his survival. But if he realises that he is a cell living within a neighborhood of other beings forming his community and that this community is part of a bigger structure forming his tribe or country and that this country is part of the whole humanity, then he will realise that being a healthy cell would affect incrementally and accumulatively the different levels of humanity and that on his individual level, he can affect humanity at large, whether positively or negatively.
As the individual cell might ignore its effect on a whole body, and that together with other cells it can affect the behaviour of the whole body, an individual human being might also ignore that he has an incremented role in developing the whole humanity and accordingly, because of his ignorance, he might question why he exists. Another example is a stone in the pyramid, if this stone ignores that it is a part of a miraculous building, it might think that its existence is of no use.
So, working on developing ourselves will help in creating a good cell of ourselves and also improve the cellular structure of humanity. I think that if every human has this notion or awareness, the whole humanity will develop into a better being.
