The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have decided to give the team extra bonuses after winning the prestigious African Cup of Nations for the third time in a row and the seventh time overall. Each player will get a bonus of LE500,000 (about $91,000). The world press praised the Egyptian team for winning the trophy for a record third consecutive time. The team were brilliant in Angola, stealing the media limelight all over the world. Super-sub Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagi was the top scorer in the tournament with five goals. Gedo, participating for the first time in the continental championship, handed his side the winner in the final against Ghana on Sunday night. The Ittihad of Alexandria-based star said that he was only able to score with the help of God. The 26-year-older has had some offers from European clubs, especially from the Spanish league. Gedo's teammates Ahmed Hassan, goalkeeper Essam el-Hadari and Ahmed Fathi won the best player, the best goalie and the cleanest player awards respectively. Meanwhile, the players may get further bonuses from Egyptian and Arab businessmen. President Hosni Mubarak, who welcomed the team when they arrived at Cairo International Airport on Monday morning, praised the Pharaohs for their excellent performance. He called them heroes. Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and Mubarak's sons, who travelled to Angola with the fans to support the team in their national duty, and thousand of fans were there at the airport to welcome the team home. President of EFA, Samir Zaher, was delighted with the team who did their best and deserve to be honoured. "They have made the Egyptian fans very happy by winning a seventh title," he commented. Egypt's assistant coach Shawqi Gharib said beating Ghana came after a tiring campaign. "We broke several records in this championship," he added proudly.
