CAIRO - Egypt's Public Transport workers continued on Wednesday their protests outside the Cabinet premises, the official Middle East News Agency reported. Meeting Minister of Manpower and Labour Ahmed el-Boraie and Cairo Governor Abdel Qawi Khalifa on Tuesday, workers were said to have decided to suspend their strike until October l0. But hundreds of public transport workers have gathered on Wednesday outside the building of the Cabinet, calling on the government to raise their wages and to appoint those working on contract. Saber Abu Sere'a, a member of the independent union of the Public Transport Authority, told Al-Youm Al-Sabea that all garages affiliated to the authority have joined the strike believing that suspending it to October l0 is a mere attempt on the part of the government to waste time. Abu Ser'a said the committee of the General Union of Land Transport is behind the change in the workers' stand. "They have been prompted to continue striking under the claim that the government is not serious about meeting their demands."
