CAIRO – The head of Freedom and Justice Party, affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood, has emphasised that the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) should be committed to the parliamentary election roadmap as outlined in the Constitutional Declaration of last March, the www.egynews.net reported on Monday. Mohamed Morsi was quoted as saying that the People's Assembly and Shura Council elections should preferably be held simultaneously. The SCAF has recently announced that the people's Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) poll will be held on November 21, to be followed later on by Shura elections. However, the presidential elections are set to be held early next year. Morsi said, during the meeting attended by political powers, parties and the SCAF late on Sunday, that his party will inform the SCAF of its (party's) perception of constituency division in terms of each governorate's quota of slates in order to avoid mistakes committed under the old regime. He noted that the division of many constituencies in several governorates , including Cairo, Fayyoum, Sharqiya and Giza need to be amended . The deputy of the SCAF Sami Anan, however, emphasised that the upcoming elections would be fair and democratic. He added that the SCAF is a neutral party in the elections process. Many political powers, parties and activists oppose the suggested system of elections that combine a slate system and individual candidacy. They have preferred an entirely slate system. The SCAF said that it will consider suggestions and demands of the attendees of Sunday's meeting.
