CAIRO – The new 'seasons hall' at Cairo International Airport will be inaugurated next Tuesday, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported. The Omrah and Hajj seasons, as well as teachers returning at the end of the school year from Arab countries, usually overwhelm airport operations. “The new terminal will mainly serve seasonal peak traffic, particularly during the Omrah and Hajj seasons, plus at the end of the school year when teachers return,” explained Lotfi Moustafa Kamal, the Minister of Civil Aviation. “The new 'seasons hall' cost LE135 million. It can accommodate 1200 passengers per hour, it has four luggage delivery belts and 27 check-in counters. There is parking space for 350 cars and 25 buses,” the official added. “The first flight from the new terminal will be an EgyptAir flight to Medina on Tuesday,” he asserted The authorities intend to turn Cairo International Airport into a hub for the Middle East and Africa. The airport facilities are in constant development. A LE200 million multi-storey car park for 3200 cars will also be opened on Tuesday, according to Minister Kamal. Over 65 airlines use Cairo International Airport, including charter and nine cargo airlines. The terminal facilities comprise Departure Hall 1, International Hall 3 and Hall 4 for private and non-commercial flight services. Last year, the airport was voted one of the three most improved airports in the 2010 Skytrax World Airport Awards.
