Egypt names Bradley as new coach
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 14 - 09 - 2011

CAIRO - The former coach of the United States national team, who was fired over the summer and replaced by Jurgen Klinsmann, will become the next coach of Egypt, according to a spokesman for that country's federation.
“All is good. Bob Bradley will be here on Sunday to sign the contract,” Azmy Megahed told The Associated Press on Wednesday in Cairo.
Egypt recently failed to qualify of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament for the first time in 33 years, as the nation has experienced tumultuous political changes over the past year that spilled over, sometimes violently, in stadiums and the streets. The country's long-time coach, Hassan Shehata, left the job in June.
Egyptian officials declined to disclose financial details of the agreement and Bradley's New York-based agent, Ron Waxman, also would not comment, the AP said.
Before signing a contract extension after the 2010 World Cup, Bradley was loosely linked with positions at Fulham and Aston Villa of the English Premier League. After being dismissed by the US, Bradley, in addition to being vetted as a possible coach of Egypt, was also in the running for the coaching job at Santos Laguna of Mexico.
Egypt had won the past three Cup of Nations tournaments, in 2006 as host; in 2008 in Ghana; and in 2010 in Angola. But Egypt has not played in the the World Cup since 1990 in Italy.
There was no word whether Bradley planned to move to the Middle East with his family for his new job.
Good move? Is this a positive development for American soccer and American coaches?
