CAIRO - After the activation of the Emergency Law, the Union of Revolution Youth called on Monday for a ‘Friday for no Emergency' demonstration in Tahrir Square and others main squares nationwide, also warning of further demonstrations, Al-Youm Al-Sabea reports. The Union said it rejects the amendments to the Emergency Law and the way in which the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) rules the country. The Union also called on the SCAF to announce a deadline for the end of the transitional period, with power being handed over to civilians. The Union warned that the recent incidents at the Israeli Embassy should not be exploited to distort the image of the revolutionaries, and to frustrate the purpose of last Friday's demonstration, dubbed ‘Getting the Revolution back on Track'. Hamada el-Kashef, a member of the executive office of the Union of Revolution Youth, said he holds the Government and the SCAF responsible for what happened at the Israeli Embassy, when police attacked civilians, leaving three people dead and more than 1,000 injured. Haitham el-Khateeb, el-Kashef's colleague, said the way the SCAF and the Cabinet have been behaving casts doubts on the seriousness of the SCAF to hand over power to civilians, adding that the purpose of the amendments to the Emergency Law is to terrify people and halt the train of change and thwart the revolution's goals. “This is like the way Mubarak handled crises,” he commented.
