CAIRO - Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr declared that post-revolution Egypt was determined to build a strong democratic foundation based on transparency and free elections. Minister Amr, added that democracy in post-revolution Egypt would guarantee a peaceful transfer of power and a vibrant multiparty political system. The Minister's roadmap for Egypt's future was presented during the 2nd Forum of Special Envoys of the UN Secretary General and African International Envoys and read on his behalf by Ambassador Ahmed Fathalla, First Foreign Ministry Deputy. “This growing democratic attitude will guarantee a smooth power transfer to a civil government and president,” the Foreign Minister added and stressed that the forthcoming general and presidential elections would constitute an unprecedented opportunity for voters to express their opinion freely. He indicated that the 2nd Forum was giving priority to the influence of political governance in connection with conflicts on the African continent. “This year's forum coincides with major political changes in different African countries,” he said and added that these changes strengthened the principles of freedom, social justice and democracy propagated by the January 25 revolution. He paid tribute to the uprisings in Tunisia and Libya by saying that they were embracing peoples' struggle for liberty, dignity and full respect of human rights. The Minister appealed to support the efforts of the African Union to settle differences and conflicts in Africa, since they would help achieve peace and stability on the continent. He seized the opportunity to highlight Egypt's efforts to achieve these goals. According to Amr, Cairo's efforts in this regard increased when the headquarters of the North African Commanding Office were opened in Cairo. The headquarters include two administrative bases.
