CAIRO - The National Council for Human Rights said on Tuesday that, according to its fact-finding committee, there was a plot behind the June 28-29 events in Al Tahrir Square, the official Middle East News Agency reports. In a press conference on Tuesday, the committee said that vehicles without number plates had carried rocks to the Balloon Theatre in Agouza, where, last Tuesday, a charitable association was honouring the families of some of the martyrs. Some other people, who also claimed that they were related to the martyrs, went to the theatre, demanding they be honoured too. They clashed with police, causing chaos, before moving to Al Tahrir Square, where they clashed again with police, who fired teargas to disperse them. Many people were injured in the clashes. In its report, the committee said the police used excess force when they fired teargas at the protesters, adding that they also detained some people who were in the process of getting first aid. This angered many citizens who rushed to Al Tahrir in a bid to attack the police. The committee said the injured people and their families, who are suffering a lot, feel that they have been neglected by the State and public opinion. It added that society is very worried about the way the aims of the revolution are being achieved, while some parties are fomenting chaos in the country for their own ends. The committee recommended that people charged with killing protesters in Al Tahrir Square during the revolution and those charged with corruption and graft be swiftly tried. The committee called on the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to allow to representatives of the victims to attend the trials, adding that the SCAF should return the police to the streets and modernise the police force.
