ALEXANDRIA - Around 22 policemen and fans were injured during clashes in a match in the coastal city of Alexandria late on Wednesday, leading the referee to call it off and forcing the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to hold an emergency meeting. "Twelve policemen and 10 fans were injured in the unrest," Abdel-Hamid Abaza, an assistant minister of health, said. About 100 fans invaded the pitch at an Egyptian Premier League game in Alexandria and were involved in scuffles with players from home team Al-Ittihad, visitors Wadi Degla and police. The game was called off with three minutes of injury time to go. The EFA is expected to cancel the match and it could take a decision for some other matches to be played without fans.
