ALEXANDRIA -- Al-Atareen Police Station in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria foiled an attack led by some l00 people in an attempt to set free a relative who had been detained at the station, the official Middle East News Agency reported. on Sunday Supported by local residents,the police force managed to thwart the attack. The detainee was transferred to another police station in the same city. Meanwhile,two days ago, 28 detainees broke away from Al-Montazah Prison in Alexandria after they had set their detention room on fire. Seven of them were arrested on Sunday, according to a police source. The escapees are believed to have been assisted by their families in yet another incident, which signals a breakdown in security in several parts of Egypt. Over the past weeks, similar incidents have been reported by the local media, raising concerns about security in this nation of 80 million.
